The kindest thing you can do for your family.

Pre-planning your funeral is not a morbid act — it is a generous one. It removes the weight of impossible decisions from people who are already grieving, and ensures your wishes are known and honored exactly as you intend.

Dawn Pounders has guided Columbus families since 1997.

Dawn Pounders co-founded Lowndes Funeral Home on the same day her husband Tim opened the doors — August 1, 1997. Since then, she has personally guided hundreds of Columbus and Lowndes County families through the pre-need planning process. She is a licensed insurance agent and the home's dedicated pre-need specialist.

A conversation with Dawn is not a sales call. It is a quiet, unhurried meeting — at our facility, at your home, or wherever you are most comfortable — focused entirely on understanding your wishes and helping you record them in a way that protects your family. Most people who sit down with Dawn describe it as one of the most clarifying conversations of their lives.

Pre-need plans are funded through a licensed pre-need insurance policy, are fully transferable if you relocate, and are held on file at our facility for whenever they are needed.

"Planning ahead is one of the greatest gifts you can give your family. It is a conversation worth having." — Dawn Pounders, Pre-Need Specialist

Simple · Private · Transferable
Step · 01

A quiet conversation.

Meet with Dawn — at our facility, at your home, or wherever you prefer. There is no pressure and no obligation. She listens, explains your options, and answers every question at your pace.

Step · 02

Record your wishes.

Choose the type of service you want, the casket or urn, the music, the readings, and any personal details that matter to you. Every preference is documented and held on file in your name.

Step · 03

Fund your plan.

Your plan is funded through a licensed pre-need insurance policy with Homesteaders Life — one of the most trusted names in funeral pre-need funding. Costs are locked in at today's rate. Payment options include cash, check, or credit card.

Step · 04

Your family is protected.

When the time comes, your family makes one phone call. Everything is already in place — the wishes recorded, the costs covered, the decisions made. They can focus on each other, not on paperwork.

Common questions.

Pre-Need Planning
What happens if I move away from Columbus?
Your pre-need plan is fully transferable. The Homesteaders Life policy can be assigned to a funeral home in your new location. Your costs remain locked in and your wishes remain on record — you are not tied to Lowndes County.
What if my wishes change after I've made a plan?
Plans can be updated. If your circumstances, preferences, or wishes change, simply contact Dawn and we will update the record. A pre-need plan is a living document — not a final contract you cannot revise.
What happens to the money I pay in advance?
Funds are placed into a licensed pre-need insurance policy with Homesteaders Life — they are not held by Lowndes Funeral Home directly. This protects your money regardless of any future changes to our business.
Is there a cost for the initial conversation with Dawn?
No. The consultation is completely free, with no obligation of any kind. Dawn's goal is to help you understand your options — not to pressure you into any decision.
Can I pre-plan for a spouse or parent without them being present?
In some cases, yes. We recommend the person whose plan is being made be involved where possible — it ensures their exact wishes are recorded. However, Dawn can discuss options for families in difficult circumstances. Please call us.
